Rolling/Loping Idle

I tried to search for "rolling idle" but didn't come up with much. It's not as bad as a lope but it will roll for about a second at startup. Has done it twice after sitting all day, leaving to go home from work; it was pretty cool outside, in the 40's or 50's. Then once most recently after all night cold soak, pretty warm weather in the high 60's, low 70's.

I'm showing NO codes on my Scangauge. What is the recommended free app most are using?

I'm used to not having much wrong with my truck and it seems there's more happening lately. I just turned over 67,000 miles and try to be more preventative that reactive for repairs. I know I'm looking at getting my FICM repaired fairly soon but really trying to hold off until I can afford it. The numbers seem to be stabilizing more recently. What could I be looking at for this type of symptom of the rolling idle?

Injector starting to get sluggish. One of the additives like Archoil will help it through for months to years.

I am running Archoil in this oil change. I normally use Power Service treatment but not in this tank. I know that's the fuel side but just thought I would mention it.

I got on it a little this morning on the way to work. I swore I thought I smelled a little fuel.

Is an injector the only thing that would make this symptom?

ForScan is a very thorough code reader. You can get it for Android or iOS.

you need the WiFi Adapter for iOs/Apple

Thanks Mark. I know this has been discussed a lot before but what is the best adapter to work with the phone? Probably Android system.

I use Torque Pro for my Android with a Bluetooth ELM327 adapter. Works well, but Torque Pro doesn't read codes as well as ForScan. I like the BAFX brand of adapters. I here that ForScan Lite works well w/ an Android phone and the same BAFX Bluetooth adapter.

Thanks Mark. Is it better to get one that plugs directly in or just Bluetooth operated?

I got the BAFX ELM adapter. I also ran Forscan for a few tests etc. About the only code I'm concerned about is the P2288. I don't have Check Engine light on though. I guess it's time for an IPR sensor or at least a screen?

That's kind of a weird ICP/IPR code. Check the plug and connections first as it appears to be more electrical than mechanical (to me). Have you changed or rewired the ICP sensor lately?

I haven't but I had some motor work in my signature done by a diesel shop last October. They would have disconnected it when they removed the heads for gaskets and studs.

Basically the code means ICP actual is higher than ICP desired. I'd bet the computer is giving a default value (870 maybe) and it's making the engine run like crap. Most likely it's the ICP but there are ways to test it. Borrow a donor ICP sensor if you can , but I'd check for bad wiring at the sensor first.

The ICP is fluctuating according to my Scangauge. At idle in gear it's around the 755 to 770 range as best as I can remember but that wasn't fully warmed up yet. I figured the values would be different in park. But I didn't get a chance to check those yet. But the truck runs good. There's a little bit of hint of a stumble at idle. I don't really know how to explain it. The idle isn't perfectly smooth.

Jack said earlier try to run some Archoil and I had already had a pint of that in the oil change. I changed the oil again this weekend (it was due) and put a quart of Hot Shot Secret in it. So far I hadn't had the second or 2 of the rolling idle but I also haven't run it very much since Saturday. Besides, the rolling idle was usually when I was leaving work.

Fired up perfectly this afternoon leaving from work. Fully warmed up I was seeing ICP fluctuating from 640 to 645. Is that the normal range?
