Well I just found out that my girlfriend told a friend of hers that her husband can use MY garage and MY tools to work on his minivan this weekend. No consulting me ect. I would have figured that after the conversation about loaning my truck out to one of her other friends would have transfered over into the rest of my stuff. But no. First she tries to loan out my truck to a girl that can't drive a stick shift and has never driven something bigger than an overglorified golf cart (Escort). Now she vonlunteers my tools, my garage, and my time. I think I need a new girlfriend.
She got mad when I told her no and to tell them to go build a garage. Ohwell, she'll get over it.
Just had to rant. Been a cruddy Monday to start with anyways.
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Put your foot down -- my stuff, my time, my choice. Make her tell them the offer has been rescinded. Let her know this will be your reaction in the future every time a decision regarding your "stuff" is made without your consent. Let her deal with the embarassment of breaking a promise/offer to help. If this doesn't work, throw her in the junkyard like an old Chevy.
Personally I can't stand being forced into any situation. Even things I would normally agree to or do gladly, I will refuse if I feel I've been backed into a corner on it. Ask me nicely, and I'll probably give in. Push me hard enough, and I'll break both your arms in 14 places and prevent you from ever "pushing" again. But that's just me.
Yeah, my mom used to volunteer me to fix friends' computers - for free. I put that to a stop. Not only did she commit my time, but my "earnings" as well. I normally don't have a problem donating my time or fixing friends computers for free, but that's only when they come to me asking, not me being volunteered out without me knowing it (I would get a call from the person I was 'volunteered' to fix). Needless to say, I had a chat a few years ago and things are straightened out.
some girls just dont understand what OUR tools and garages and trucks mean to us. i dont have a girlfriend but itd be nice if i did. atleast i dont have to worry about that stuff.
Luckily my Mother or my Girlfriend never do that... But if they did I'd straighten them out.
What i get is even worse... My brother voluneers my tools and stuff.
He comes home, uses them, and leaves them...
1) in the driveway
2) In his Bronco
3) On the floor in the garage
4) In the toolbox thing under the hood of his truck
Take your pic... Thats where they always end up... never put back up and never cleaned.
I think Id rather just be volunteered to help him.
As I usually have to go behind him and fix his problems, and put up my tools.
Oh I straightened her right out. I love the girl but at some point you have to lay the law down. She has to go through the humiliation of telling them no now. She'll learn one way or another.
Women start that crap young...loaning junk, borrowing junk. They don't understand that we don't do that....I buy stuff so I can use it...I'm not Enterprise, I'm not a library. I look at some of the stuff they trade/share and I'm appalled.
Stay strong guys...stand up and defend your junk. They'll all learn eventually...my girl never touches my tools.
You young guys have got your priorities all wrong... You are supposed to pick a girl by how compliant she is, not by how good looking she is. A girl who will do as she is told, and never touch your gear, is worth ten thousand bimbos.
I explained the problem to the fiancee. She said she would do the same thing!!! She said "what's yours is ours, and what's mine is ours"
WELL!!! That didn't go over well. I've come to the conclusion that I will leave any tools at work in MY toolbox under lock and key.
In her defense, though, she would never "voluntell" me to help someone. She knows well enough to ask me on behalf of whoever first. Then I say "I may have to work that day" Besides, I work on Peterbilts, not Hondas.
I could've swore we had this same question like 4 months ago only someone else was the thread starter
I'm the only one with a "big truck" in my family. So far, no one has asked for any favors. They all know better
