That is the DPFE sensor on the EGR tube from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve. It is not an uncommon problem to find them melted. You may also need to replace the EGR tube as well. There is an orifice between the 2 ports on the tube where the DPFE sensor attaches. That orifice is also known to burn through as well. It will cause the CEL to stay with an EGR fault code
If the DPFE sensor is melted or blown off, it's usually due to a restricted exhaust downstream. Plugged converter or mufflers would be the most common reasons. That's the remnants of your DPFE sensor in the upper part of the area circled in yellow.
To repair, you're not only going to have to eliminate the exhaust restriction, you're going to have to check the electrical connector for the DPFE sensor and hope it's still good. Otherwise, it will also need to be repaired or replaced.

The DPFE sensor has melted off my 2004 Escape V6 twice now. The tubes are gone and the connector isnt totally melted but it looks pretty rough. Are clogged cats the only thing that would cause this, or is there more I need to be considering. It runs fine except for the super loud hissing sound when I accelerate.
Also, when I try to find the connector on Amazon, the only ones I see look like they only have one plug. Mine plugs into the regulator valve (I think thats what it called) so I need it to have two plugs.
