Help with Identifying Engine & Trans
Hey Guys! I'm new here and have just bought a 1969 Ford F100. Based on the VIN, the engine has been replaced. It now has either a 289 or a 302. From what I have read these two engines are identical except for the stroke on the 302 is 0.13" longer.
It has a 3 speed manual shifter in the floor, but I have not idea if the trans has also been changed or if the original is still in it.
If I get under the truck, what do I look for in order to identify the trans?
The shifter stick is a Hurst and it hits the bench seat in 1st and 3rd.
I'd like to get a taller stick to clear the bench.
Any help would be appreciated.
Oh....here's a shot I did yesterday after I washed it.

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: A = 240 1V I-6; B = 300 1V I-6; G = 302 2V
TRANS code stamped on the Warranty Plate. B = Warner T-85N 3 speed M/T with Overdrive // C = Type 3.03 3 speed M/T

Very nice truck!!! Looks like someone did a very nice job on the paint. I love that color!!! Seems I've seen pics of that truck somewhere? That color is hard to miss. Was it on Ebay?
Sounds like it has the std 3spd transmission, nothing special about them.
The motor, could be anything. If you want, pull a plug and run the piston to BDC and stick a coat hanger down. Mark it, then roll piston to TDC and mark. Then measure. The 1/8" might be hard to determine unless you get real exact measurements.

It could be the Ford type 3.03 3 speed M/T all synchromesh, or possibly the Borg-Warner T-85N 3 M/T with overdrive, but neither would have had a floor shift originally.

Warranty Plate has a C, so if it is the original tranny, it's the Ford Light Duty, right?
Rear Axle code appears to be an 09, so that would be 3.70, correct?
