Many.... yes MANY... dirt daubers were either greatly upset or heavily harmed during the making of these pictures.......
The more pieces I took off my engine the more nauseated I got...... EVERY.... hole, crack and crevasse was PACKED with dirt thanks to that wonder of nature.... the dirt dauber. I don't care if the hole was too small for them to get into.... they STILL packed it full of dirt. AND... what gets me is that they must either pick a special mud that dries hard as a rock OR they have a secret ingredient (not yet discovered by man) they mix with normal mud to make a nest or stick in ANY hole they can find.
ANYWAY... enough about that..... here is my poor ole Ford 302 V8 before and after a little clean-up.
STILL.... lots more to do.
At least now it is clean enough to take apart.
That is how I am thinking of running a clear plastic fuel filter. Every time I see one hanging out over the top of the distributor, I think engine fire!!

Wow thats a lot of work with the engine in the truck. Looks grand! Sure was crusty. How did you prep surface before painting? So many nooks and cranny's to clean.

Yep, I like the idea but the thing I don't like is that the original steel fuel line was bypassed for some reason. The PO ran a rubber line all the way back to the tank.
I haven't been under there yet to see HOW he connected to the tank..... I think when I do see it, I am going to get mad.
Oh well....... onward!

Yep, that was a LOT of work. I spent all Sunday afternoon on it. That was about 4 - 5 hours worth
First thing I did was suck all the broken dirt dauber nest parts off the manifold.... That alone made a HUGE difference. Then out came the wire brushes and scrapers. I had my little shop vac close by and every time I loosened up a bunch I would suck it up with the vac.
When I got all clean from that step I got the Purple Power out and hit the greasy areas and washed that off. Then, I hit the whole thing with carb cleaner and when that dried, out came the "Blue Man blue" Ford Blue paint.....
When I got to Advance Auto Parts to buy my paint, they actually had 3 can of paint and all 3 had a different shade cap....SO, I picked the "middle" one.... Oh well,
