how bad is the old one ?? it might be fixable..

the 6.2L is a 6.2L but computer and sensors may not be.

depending on the State you live in.. may not be legal..EPA stuff..

Just curious what you mean by "it just went out"?

Yes the service part numbers are the same for the long blocks. You will have external accessories to swap. As cheap as these 6.2 engines are used I wouldn't attempt a major repair. Used engine with under 50k should be 3k or less.

Subscribed, as I am curious to know if you can put the '17+ 6.2 right into the 2011-2016 6.2 trucks. I'm sure they bolt right in, but the electrical/computer part is my wonder....This would be great to get the higher torque/lower rpm motor in the OBS truck.

Well the higher torque and HP is not ONLY related to the engine, but the PCM (powertrain control module, as a generic description) that manages it, along with all the sensors, etc. Just swapping the motor won't likely get you any more power.
If you took the entire harness and engine computer and swapped that with the engine, it might work, but then you have to worry about integrating the "new" engine computer to the "old" chassis.
There are all kinds of things that all these systems do as integrated functions.

I seriously doubt it's as easy as you'd hope it to be.

I'm sure you will need a tune after install to compensate for the larger valves and different cam profile. I hope you do the swap, cause I've been very interested in this as well for future reference.

Ford documents indicate the MY2017+ 6.2 has different cam profiles and a different intake manifold. Another possible interface issue might be with the AT: Ford used the 6.2 + 6R140 combo in the 2011(?)-2016 F250, but switched to the upgraded 6.2 + 6R100 starting in MY2017.

Trans should not be an issue. The 2017+ 6.2 F 350’s still have the 6r140. The 6r100 is only in the gas F250’s.

Therein lies the question: Is the 2017 motor from an F250 or an F350?

Regards,

Did you ever go through with the swap? I’m in a similar situation and found a great deal on a 2017 motor with low miles.
