Which little corner of The Bay Area are you in? Where are you trapped?
Another "atmospheric river" is washing in. This entire week, CalTrans was doing patch repair work on U.S. 101 from SF to SFO. That little stretch which passes through Brisbane & South San Francisco has more patch repair than original road.
Yah. Post office is on "the other side". So we have to go down to the valley, then up the peninsula, then over the hill to get mail. About 38 miles one way.

I heard that Skyline had several sections with pothole activity, near San Mateo & Santa Clara County divide, bad enough to close off. Highway 17 had a lot of issues also. It sounds like you have to detour towards Highway 1 to get around the closure. The news reports have been focused on Highway 37 to the North. They say that the bridge toll increase and gas tax is for such roadway repairs. Has The Gavinator allocated funding to help your community?
There didn't seem to be any issue about this repair. The original sinkhole took out the entire northbound lane for about 50 feet, and it undermined the southbound lane. What I've seen of the repair so far looks like they're going to replace a couple hundred feet of roadway. Short term, I think they're building a 1-lane bypass that I hope they will open in the next few days or week. With the atmospheric river coming tomorrow, it may impact that.
There is another "pending" sinkhole about a mile south of the current break. If it goes, it will be a big outage. I would guess that it would take a year or more to fix. The issue is, if the downhill side goes, there will be no "there" there.
Happy Sunday guys!
I finally put 100 miles on the truck, haven't really been driving it much as I look and admire it.
I used to live right off Skyline in Daly City, where the houses were falling off on Palisades Dr.
Miss the weekend motorcycle or car cruises down 35 to Santa Cruz then back up HWY1.
Maybe in 2/3 years I can move to Monterey Co where I'd like to retire to.
I went up to visit the repair site. Looks like they have an issue with the southbound lane re-inforcement. They installed a bunch of "sheets"; u-shaped metal planks about 20' long that they pound or vibrate into place alternating the U of the sheets. They look substantial as each "sheet" looks to be 1/2" thick. Well, anyway, the sheets did not hold. Looks like the saturated ground pushed them sideways several feet. So they put in another line of sheets. That looks like it "might" hold to allow a 1-lane bypass to be constructed Southbound lane is on the right side of the new row of sheets:
I’m wondering if the whole hill side is starting to slip, in that case nothing they can do until all the dust settles , then reevaluate the hill.its what happines when they build roads on sand loom soil.
