No, it shouldn't interfere much or at all.
Should look like this: I may go with another for the lower opening.
Interesting to note that the cops are riding Suzuki dirt bikes......something only seen in The City. They chase people on sidewalks and ride up stairs.

A lot easier to maneuver in traffic and whatever as well.
Saw this on the news last night. They had trouble shutting off the gas to the affected area. They had to dig up the pipe nearby and "pinch" it off. Took almost two hours because they had to do some of the digging by hand.
The crew with the backhoe either screwed up, or the USA crew that marked the position of the gas lines screwed up. The backhoe operator himself (or herself) was very lucky s/he wasn't killed.
According to PG$E spokesman, their crews had to hand dig through asphalt, because the gas lines were within 24" of the surface. That is the law.
Perhaps the finding will be that the Verizon subcontractors should also have been hand digging, instead of using a backhoe.
It is extremely difficult to hand dig through asphalt. How do you break the surface by hand, and shovel? That's probably why the subcontractors were using the backhoe, in violation of the law.
The guy from PG&E that I heard last night said they could "begin" the digging with a backhoe (IOW break the surface), but had to switch to hand digging when they were too close to the actual gas line.
Either way, it must have been difficult. Amazing that they were able to get to it in about 2 hours.
