An upholstery shop can glue a sandable foam pad to your dash, then sand the foam to the contours of the dash, then glue a new vinyl cover onto the foam, trim the edges, and install the chrome.

In 63, the padded dash, along with a passenger side sun visor was a “safety package” option. No mention of seat belts.

Going with teh metal dash look on my '64.

t1956bird how did you strip the old adhesive off when you did your dash?

My dash pad was completely crumbling so its is now gone. Ford in all its glory glued the snot out of it. Tried some paint thinner, didn't do much. Sanding will take quite a while. Any better options?

Heat gun and a scraper will make quick work of that glue.

Glue removal

Hi, I'm not to classic trucks and the forum. I just removed my dash pad from my 66 F250 CC and it looks great and was very easy... Until, I tried to remove the glue. I've tried Goo Gone, WD40 and a heat gun but can't get it off and don't want to ruin the paint job. Anyone have more suggestions or have had other methods that have worked? The pad is in pretty good shape with one crack, any idea what I should ask for it? Thanks, Kitter

What about gently working up to the edge of the glue using rubbing compound then polishing compound. Don’t be to aggressive. Worth a try.

As to the dash pad? Since they are reproduced ( I believe ) , I would pay exactly zero dollars for a cracked pad.

Lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, acetone, goof off. Always try in an inconspicuous place first. Some where in an old thread, people mentioned what they used that didn't touch the paint.
I'm planning on removing my old dash pad too.

Goo Gone worked for me. Goof Off removes paint, I found out.

Thanks everyone. Acetone worked very well.

Christmas, I sent you a message directly about selling the old dash. I'll be gone for a week but can send it to you when I get back if you still want it.

Thanks, Kitter

I know - I'm late to this party, Kitter.

Well, if someone else is still wondering how to clean off residual glue, and you don't have a can of Acetone sitting around, try using your can of charcoal lighter fluid. Dampen the glue with the fluid, wait a minute or so, then wipe with a good terry cloth rag. Repeat as necessary.
