2 odd 98 Ford Explorer problems...
1. My 1998 ford explorer has a bad idle air control valve. I was told its pretty easy to replace. Can anyone give me a general location of where the part is on the engine?
2. Ever since I have first bought my explorer, it has had a problem with the 4 wheel drive. When I back up and turn at the same time..it winds up like a spring and then POPS, causing the truck to jerk. On the dash, every now and then the "4 wheel high and 4 wheel low" lights flash for approx. 5-6 seconds then stop. This usually happens every 5-10 mins. It also gets VERY poor gas mileage. Im not sure if the 2 are related tho.
Any ideas??
Thanks for any answeres in advance.

If its a different engine, Im not sure.
As for the 4wd, dont engage it on non slip surface esp. if making sharp turns. The 'jerk' could be a wheel finally slipping and releasing the built up torque in the driveline.. If thats not it Im not sure..
Not sure what you mean poor gas mileage but my 98 4L ranger gets 15 or so, my 03 X 4L gets about the same, maybe 17 on a good day.
My 92 Explorer gets as high as 20 on the highway and 14 around town. Usually about 17 all around though.
IAC is easy fix, I assume the truck won't idle or has surging idle and that is why you want to replace...
