The check engine light came on recently and turned out the oil temp was out of range. After some investigating I realized the wire was broke at the sensor plug. Its broke off flush with the back side of the plug. I called the stealership and a new pigtail is available but its pushing $60.
Does anyone have any advise on where I can find one cheaper or is there possible a way to disassemble the plug and get the wire back inside it?
Check rockauto.com they might be a little less. But if my information is correct and you have the 4.2 V6 engine then 7U2Z14S411DA is one of the part numbers for that pigtail. There's a new one for sale on eBay for $20.95 with the shipping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/7U2Z14S411D...d/332522678626
Thanks for the info but mine is the 5.4. I just checked rockauto but by the time I pay shipping I'm just as cheap as the dealer. I didn't realize you could buy this type of part aftermarket. I'll do some internet searching and see what I can find.
Sounds like maybe your dealer isn't so bad after all. Can't find it at OReillys or Autozone. Rockauto is nearly always the lowest price and they're close.
Try living when the nearest dealer is 137 miles away. Dealers have value.

Yeah there is something to be said for that also. I broke down and order the part the other day. Actually drove it to work today to fix it. Got tired of the CEL burning all the time.
Its more of a nuisance sensor it doesn't do much . Later models don't have it .some guys found that out when replacing junk yard oil pans and they just fix it to the outside of pan .
I'm in the boat of swapped in an '08 motor on my '05 and didn't notice the lack of sensor hole. When it's cold out check engine light comes on, EOT temp out of range. Anybody make a delete or resistor or something?
