1971 F250 Brake Light Switch

I replaced my brake light switch in my 1971 F250 300 4.9L with one from a local parts store, what junk, lasted two weeks and broke inside, don't want any more China junk.

Is this MotorCraft part number correct for my truck? Number is SW-5163.
I think my local Ford dealer can get one from the MotorCraft warehouse in LA, CA, I just want to make sure this is the correct number.

Better check with the parts guy to see if Motorcraft SW-5163 replaced the original part number:

D2TZ-13480-B (replaced C8TZ-13480-B) .. Stop Lamp Switch (Motorcraft SW-691-A).

1968/74 F100/350 / / 1975/76 F150/350 360/390 / 1975/77 F100 / 1975/77 F150/350 300 I-6 & F150/350 460 without Speed Control.

SW-5163 has an MSRP of $32.40. It looks like the original in Fords online parts catalog pic, except it has 2 nuts.

The original threaded into an adapter (C8TZ-13B629-A) that clipped onto the brake pedal. The prongs of the adapter broke, the switch dangled from the pedal.

Pic of switch shows two nuts that secure it in place.

btw: Where is this new switch made, Canada, Mexico, China or? If it's the US, I'll be amazed!

Pic from 1964/72 truck catalog showing at the lower left...the 13A629 adapter that the 13480 switch threads into.

NumberDummy -- Was able to order the correct MotorCraft brake light switch at my local Ford Dealer today. They got it in, will pick up tomorrow. The SW-5163 is the current Motorcraft number. Thanks for the parts layout and the original numbers. After the China junk unit it is nice to get a Ford product, good quality and a 2 year warranty.

To order and receive it that quickly, the dealer purchased the switch from a local Motorcraft jobber. The largest in SoCal is Cal-State in Orange County.

Others are Hollywood Auto Parts in Pomona and Warren Distributing in Santa Monica/West Los Angeles.

The Ford Parts Depot is in Ontario, everything ordered is shipped, so there is no way...none...that it could be ordered, shipped, then received the same day.

Bill, makes sense. As long as it is a "Motorcraft" SW-5163 brake light switch It should be fine. Will see when I pick it up tomorrow.

Picked up my new MotorCraft SW-5163 brake light switch today. The switch is like night & day different than the junk unit I got from a on line truck parts company. the internal spring pressure is twice as strong. It pays to stick with OEM parts when you can get them.
