Well..... Sorry if am overlooking an obvious link to a "how to" in the forum. I have searched but can't seem to find anything. (Maybe I need a lesson in "how to search")
I just need to know if there is a special tool and a specific way of removing the body trim (molding) without destroying parts OR scratching up you truck's finish.
I removed one piece of mine because it was already loose and the plastic clip were rotten. So, that one was easy.
Until someone posts more specific information, study the backside of the piece you removed, as well as the retaining clips, for clues on how they come off. With the clips, the ones at the end of the trim piece are often different. Sometimes the retainer at one end is set up so that the trim piece will have to be slid back to where a cutout will allow the end-retainer to release the trim. You don't want to pry the trim around one of those types of retainer clips.
I'm guessing that you can access a good amount of the clips on the fenders and bedsides/quarters, by reaching up from underneath - if the clips are of the poke-through variety. Perhaps you can push them back through from behind, and then be able to slide the trim off.
AFAIR each separate "dent" piece has a stud and nut on each end. And then X amount of plastic clips in the middle, held on by rivet head like stud. The plastic clip just slides off of it.
Mask off on both sides of trim with painters tape to prevent scratching truck. With trim off you will still have the rivet head like studs to deal with. AKA BODY WORK time.
Front fender: Front of fender trim, the nut is hard to easily access with the fender and or outer grill shell installed. Its fwd of the side marker light, but you should be able to get in there with the plastic liner removed or the headlight bezel removed, look for an access hole. See pics. With door open, look for nut on end of fender trim, 3 plastic tabs.
Door: Open door, easy access to each end stud nut and then 3 plastic clips in the middle. Remove nuts, pop off trim.
Bed: Stud with nut back by side marker, remove tail light lens to access the nut. Fwd end of trim (stud/nut?) look way up inside of bed skin for nut. 3 or 4 plastic clips??
Yes those fenders and that paint with PO applied house paint over it have seen better days.....its getting there. Forgot the cab piece one sm screw and then just pry pop that one off...you will have a hole to fill.
