4x4 Light
I have a 2005 Ranger. 4.0 L 4x4. It doesn't always turn light on when I engage the 4x4 switch. Sometimes light goes out after a while. Not sure if 4x4 is engaged.
I thought I had it working better if I exercised it more often. Any thoughts or checks I can do?

not sure how cold it is where you are but i had a similar issue recently in zero degree temps. in my case
4wd was not working and the self test for the 4wd hi & lo dash lights was not illuminating on engine startup.
solved by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery for a few minutes then reconnecting.
also tapped a few times on the transfer case shift motor with a hammer. that got it working normally for now anyway.
oh and afterward i exercised the shift motor by turning to 4wd hi and 4wd low and back to 2wd a few times in the driveway.
