Injector Cup Leaking?

So I just bought a 2000 F-250 with a 7.3 and 294k miles, when I bought it, it had been sitting for a year, when I got it started with some help of starting fluid, it smoked white for about three minutes, and finally cleared up. Drove it home, let it sit for two days, started it back up and it smoked white for 10-20 seconds then cleared up. I figured this is no big deal because both time I cranked it a lot before it started because of low batteries. Well, I was talking to a buddy of the guy I bought it from and he asked me if I knew about the leaking injector cup and told me that's why it smokes so much. I don't really know much about this and I don't know if the guy's buddy did either. Could all the white smoke at startup be injector cups? It does have a new coolant reservoir, which kinda makes me think that it could have been replaced because the old one broken down because of the fuel in the coolant reacting with the plastic but I don't know for sure.

Smoke at startup with those miles could be worn injectors, or this time of year bad glow plugs/relay.
DO NOT use starting fluid on these motors. That's a good way to melt holes thru the aluminium pistons. Ohm out the glow plugs thru the valve cover harness, have the batteries load tested, clean the battery posts and the ground cables connections on the motor, test the glow plug relay, and turn the oil cap upside down when the engine is running to see if the compression is good, if good the cap will just vibrate a little with the engine harmonics, bad comp and the cap will blow off.
As for the injector cups look for fuel in the coolant reservoir, bad injector orings will turn the fuel filter black, and if you are in there replacing orings you can test the cups.

I know starting fluid is bad for diesels, but it wouldn’t fire at first because it had been sitting for so long so I used some sparingly just to get it to turn over

An indication of cup issues would be something besides coolant in your degas bottle (fuel or oil). Is the coolant level going up/down over time?

Lots of other things to consider before jumping on cups. GPs, GP relay, injector o-rings, wiring, etc.
