Because of the design of a pintle type injector they normally just need cleaning when they have a poor spray pattern. Even new the pattern isn't very clean compared to a newer five hole injector.

The low pressure of our injection system is partially to blame here too

Iirc our injectors are capable to flow enough fuel with the right pump for over 500hp. The hole is pretty big

I've had several that just needed a good cleaning, once the seat stops sealing they get a lot of gunk up in them. As long as it comes out straight for the most part and doesn't drip anymore than the manual says (read about that in my international manual as well) then I wouldn't see a problem with them as it's being forced into a super hot prechamber.

If you tried to use our injectors in a direct injected motor it would look like an old two stroke Detroit and haze or smoke out the whole road.

That neighbor has some out of a 6.9 and says there all the same, interchangeable. Is this so?? Mine's a 7.3. Also is there any way to tell if there any good before installing? With this engine, not sure how many miles but the short time I drove it before starting to replace parts didn't burn any oil. So far I've put in solid steel flywheel, clutch & Pressure plate, throw out bearing, new slave cyl, Slave cyl master cyl, new brake master cyl , new power boost, remanufactured steering box, new water pump, new glow plugs, new controller for glow plugs, new "O"ring seal kit + hoses etc. If I can use the injectors from the 6.9 it would save me about $350. thank you in advance Bill oh also forgot 6 new tires. will add picture when I get it painted .
IDI injectors aren't all the same. It will fit and function, but probably won't be the same so it'll likely cause an imbalance in that cylinder compared to the others.

Not anymore of an imbalance than the intake creates, or that compression normally varies.

So why are there so many different IDI injectors? Even between my 7.3 van and the same year 7.3 truck are different, and the engines have different HP & Tq which would make sense for them having different injectors.
