Hey just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with their 4 wheel drive. When I turn the switch to go into 4 hi it goes in and works, when I turn the switch to go back to 2 wheel drive, it shows on the dash that it has but it is still in 4 wheel drive. If I shut the truck off for a few minutes it goes back into 2 wheel drive. 2014 Superduty
Any ideas? I checked all of the fuses, and crawled under the truck and tapped the motor on the transfer case
How are you determining that it is still in 4Hi? The reason I ask is that if the hubs remain locked it may "feel" like it's in 4Hi but the transfer case may be in 2Hi. So maybe your hub actuator isn't working quite right, or maybe your hubs aren't in auto mode.
It's been a while since I've had a 4 wheel drive, but I remember that the manual said you had to back up for 10 feet to disengage the hubs. Do you have to do that on the newer models?

no....I think that is/was only for the fully automatic hubs (that you couldn’t get out and manually lock)
No leaks, joints seem ok , but there is a whistle in my left front hub when I lock it in. When its locked no issues until I go into 4 wheel drive, then there is a thumping sound and vibration to go with it. Any ideas ?

Sounds like your inner hub seal is leaking. The thumping sound that you are hearing could be the engaging/disengaging of the hub from the fluctuation of the vacuum psi. Try manually locking your hubs to see if the sound and vibration persists. There are videos on YouTube on how to check and replace the seal if needed. It’s fairly common in these axles.
Right now I have to manually lock them in. It's when they are locked in and only in 2 wheel drive that I hear the whistle. When I turn the **** to 3 wheel it makes the thumping sound. But what your saying helps a lot. I'm going to change out my hubs and see if that helps. Thank you for your post.
