Voltage gauge fluctuating

Voltage gauge fluctuating
Replaced alternator and belt and after a couple hundred miles volt gauge on the dash started surging almost to redline and back down midway. Headlights and dome are all pulsing even at idle. Checked tension on the belt and even swapped battery to no avail.

Probably a bad regulator in the alternator you bought this wouldn’t surprise most of us as the replacement especially the rebuilt ones are pretty low quality. I got a bad rebuilt and new one back to back right out of the box before. You need to address this before you do some damage to the truck or it’s electronics. The proper thing to do would be test with a voltmeter if you don’t have one take it off and back to where you got it tell them what’s happening they may test it or just give you a new one as they know the replacement alts suck.
