I've read a few post about symptoms of clutch slave cylinders going bad but I have a couple slightly different symptoms. I know its integrated with the throwout bearing so it may be related to that part. The other day after stopping on a hill I had a hard time getting into any gear and finally prevailed and was able to proceed. I've noticed on a few occasions a slight rattling noise at times when clutch is depressed. I've also noticed depressing clutch seems to put a slight load on engine at times. Twice after truck wouldn't go into gear at the next stoplight I heard a noise when clutch was depressed and rpms seemed to drop. Haven't noticed any fluid leaks as fluid was OK. Does this sound like the throwout bearing going?
thanks

Throw out bearing is going or has gone out they usually get noisey. You can just replace the throw out bearing. But it is the Same job replace the slave / throw out bearing as an assembly.

yeah, that's what I was thinking. I guess would be a good time to replace rear main seal and pilot bearing too as well as clutch and pressure plate. Do most people replace pressure plate when doing this job? I believe Luk is the OEM brand from what I've been reading here.
I have been using autozone clutches and they have been pretty good. I also use their lifetime warranty slave and master cyls. Their clutch kits come with everything, pilot bearing, throwout bearing etc. I have used the free replacement several times now as the trans has been the major issue not the clutch, but with their policy all I need to do is bring in the old and walk out with new and since you have to pull trans anyhow why not just replace all at the same time! So as I said the duralast stuff has worked great.
I also replaced my flywheel with theirs and again no issues. costs are very reasonable compared to some places.
If the truck has a lot of miles on it then yes replace it all. And make sure to have the flywheel surfaced or replaced. I prefer Luk clutch kits. At least at one time Luk was what Ford used as OEM.
Truck has 268000 miles on it. Is in real good mechanical shape other than a small oil leak I can't pin point. I bought truck for $3700 10 years ago when it had 105000 on it. I can definitely say I've gotten my moneys worth. Surprised I haven't had any problems with clutch earlier.
my experience has been that if you replace either the master or slave, make sure to replace the other. I R&Rd a master, slave went out, put in one of the clutch kits with a slave and the master went bad, thus the use of the autozone lifetime stuff at the same time. As I said no issues and when I did buy a 'name' brand slave it went out within a year

You did great getting 160k+ miles out of a clutch/bearing, etc. Replace ALL, period!
Well a little late replying to my own post but I will update. I had a local transmission shop do the job with parts i had already purchased. I wanted him to check transmisson out and replace all seals in it while it was out. I replaced clutch kit, slave cylinder, and bearings. He said clutch was coming apart and pilot bearing was shot. Everything going great now
