6.2L engine tick

Couldn't get search to work, so got a question.

anyone else have a valve tick coming from their 6.2l engine? It's it normal? Hear more when accelerating. Curious if already needs to go to dealer. 2300 miles.

If you hear engine noise while accelerating im going to say yes take it in. All of the 6.2’s i have heard have a bit of a “tick” at idle, but 0 engine noise under throttle.

Just me but when I hear any odd ticks, knocks etc, first thing I look at is oil level, any leaks drips etc....

Well after searching I came across a thread how the truck needs mid grade gas to run normally (dealer never mentioned), put it in and seems like tick went away....

While I don't necessarily agree with the mid-grade requirement to run normally, based on your acceleration and gas grade change comments, I'm going to say it sounds like you've got some low octane ping. You also may have gotten some bag gas or simply have poor fuel quality in your area.

why is it the dealers job to mention particular gas. crack open the owners manual and dont put blame on other people. im doubting the tick you heard had anything to do with fuel grade. running empty around town you could use any grade. pulling 15k up steep hill may or may not need higher grade. modern vehicles have all kinds of antiknock technology so you dont need super high octane

I've had an 11' 13' 15' & 17' 6.2 Super Duty. They've all had a tick at idle. From about 1500 miles to the day I traded them in.

Cause when you specifically ask what gas is required, and they tell you regular is fine is when it's like wtf.

everything you need to know is in the owners manual. if you have flat tire in middle of the night do you think dealer will answer phone and tell you where there tire jack is. read up man

alot of engine have normal tick, not to be confused with a knock. my tacoma ticks. possibly the normal function of pvc valve or something

How many miles on your 6.2? Mine recently started to tick and it was far worse under acceleration and when cold. It was an exhaust leak at the manifold which is not totally uncommon. I had to have one of the exhaust bolts replaced.

2400 miles as of yesterday. Had the idle tick that id expect as my 5.0 had it. But mine is/ was fast more noticable accelerating. Maybe still take it in to get looked at. Need 2 other small things fixed anyway.

I just noticed a weird noise under acceleration last night. It was 16 degrees out. hmmm Any chance you have a picture of the exact spot of the exhaust leak?

I don't. Sorry. I just went ahead and had my dealer repair it. But it was so obvious something was wrong and exhaust leak was the only real possibility.

By the way. My 6.2L has 96,000 miles. Its almost 5.5 years old.

I bought a 2019 F250 with the 6.2 yesterday. 300 miles on it and on the way home I had a tick also. sounds almost from the passenger side and def gets worse when I accelerate or engine is at high rpm. Parked the truck for 3 hours, went for a half hour ride and never got it to make the sound again. But today I drove around town and it made the tick almost the entire time, samething, when accelerating and high rpms

My 2019 6.2 started making noise right side of motor with 20 miles on it .dealer had it 20 couple days replaced both cam phasers. I got it back and it started making noise again.I took it back they said we don't hear anything . I took it to another dealer they said definitely not normal they have had it ever since .truck has been at ford dealers 48 days now .
