ok guys....a little off topic here....what bright lights do you guys have in your garages?........ and where did you get them and price.......maybe photos?........ thanks....
I have four of these. Caught them on sale for about $20. each. Two are in the wife's studio and two are in my shop as supplements to fluorescents 5500 lumens is a lot of light.. One was DOOB but replaced, no questions. Two of them are about a year old, others about six months
Edit: Looks like they have a package of two on sale right now for about half price.

mine are 8' fixtures with 4-4' bulbs (w/ballast)... changed from t-8 to LEDs and very pleased Bulbs and fixtures from Lowes... caught a close out on LED bulbs, a 16 bulb carton for 39 bucks... don't go look, there all gone. color is 5000K
I put two rows of 8' LED lights in my garage this year and love them. They were about $95 per light at Home Depot but well worth it.
The most important thing is that they light up even when it is zero degrees outside. My old florescent ones were terrible in the cold!
Have plenty of light now.
Sweet...thanks for the input...... I do have a Costco and lowes near by.......I'm not in the garage too much during the winter but come spring I will be putting them up.....
Ding-ding! Looks like Costco LEDs are the winners. In my shop it had fix foot florescent lights, two on the wall on one side and three width wise down the center. They gave off OK light be now they were dim with the cold. I bought 24 4' LEDs from Costco. I going to have 16 in the high ceiling area and 8 under the mezzanine where I do my drilling and tapping and other close up bench work. We rigged up three of the LEDs while putting up the walls so we could see what we were doing. Just those 3 gave off more light as the three 8' florescents.
Yeah the newer LED's are amazing. And the T5 and T8's are so much better that the old T12s. This is sorta unrelated but I bought some LED Troffer light for my suspended ceiling basement , They are 5/8" thick and are 2x2 and fit right in the grid in place of a ceiling tile. They are excellent at about 40 bucks each.
Bob,
Glad you see the LIGHT!
A couple of years ago someone posted about COSTCO having a sale on LED lights and how great they were. So I bought one to try out. Once installed and turned on, I immediately went back to COSTCO and got enough to do my entire shop. One of the best purchases I've made for the shop!
BJ, I was never in favor of those stupid twisted florescents they tried to foist on us some years back. They were ugly, expensive and seemed to burn out easily. When LEDs came out I was listening to a program on NPR and they were talking to a person who sold LED lighting. At that time LEDs were expensive and the guy said he sold them to places like churches and stores who had high ceilings on the advantage that the cost to pull out ladders every other month to replace ladder and lifts to change lights offset the high cost of LEDs. He said at that time the cost was high because they weren't being used on a large scale yet but will drop in price once production and sales improved. At the time I thought, "Great, another scam product they're going to try to shove down our throats". After seeing the difference side by side I was sold. I also set up at trade show next to an LED company who had their products set up. Man, half the day I was being blinded by LED lights, unbelievably bright lights for all type of applications.
Who knows, maybe ten years from now we'll find out they cause cancer. I know I've heard they cause problems for some epileptics because the LEDs operate on a pulse. I don't know if this is true.

I don’t see how they could possibly be worse than fluorescent. I knew one person that could have mild seizures, and two others that get major headaches from them. One of the headache sufferers personal motto is “60 hertz hurts”. I haven’t asked her about the LEDs.
