I have a 95 f250 5.8. 10 degrees out so I warmed up the truck before leaving for work. Drove a quarter mile and it started hesitating and the check engine light came on so I turned around and parked it. Couple days later—much warmer 32 degrees and it ran fine all day. This morning had 8 degrees and it did it again but this time I kept driving. After 8 miles the check engine light went off and it ran fine the rest of the day. Any ideas how cold weather can produce this code?
Code 172 (KOER): HEGO sensor circuit indicates system lean.
That does not necessarily mean the O2 sensor is bad, it's a symptom of a lean condition sensed by the computer. Are there any exhaust leaks upstream of the O2? If so, that can trigger a false lean code. Recent tune up with filters?
