Ok, for no other reason than to have it. Im considering buying an f600. I have read around the web stating that under 26001 lbs GVWR i do not need a CDL. Looking at a 1986 sales brochure (I'd like one in the 80-86 my) i see the the 600 is rated 24k gvwr. Now directly below that i see the combined weight is 50k! I understand that gcvwr is truck weight plus trailer plus load weight. Where does that come into play with needing a cdl? I believe if ive read correctly if the load and trailer are 10k or more i need a cdl, but what im asking is with the 50k gcvwr will i be legally allowed to drive this vehicle so long as i keep the trailer and load under 10k? Sorry for the rambling.
biggest truck ive owned was a 88 f350 c&c
You are ok without CDL if your trailer is under 10K,
F600s were fine trucks. 30+ years on, you must be very diligent in you pre-purchase inspections. One thing to watch is brakes. New drums are not available, although everything else is.
There is a chance you will run across widow maker wheels, although I'm pretty sure those were gone by '86. Someone could have put them on the truck.
370s are not powerhouse motors. Brakes (back to that) could be Lucas Girling. Look for a yellow pull **** on the dash for the park brake. Good brakes but expensive to work on.
There are dozens of F600 threads here, with links to all those issues, so read on before you get your checkbook out.
That chart is not correct. The F600 was rated at 32k and the F700 was available up to 42k. Also you have to be under 26k for Class C, that's why you see lots rated at 25,999lbs.
It can be tagged for its rated carrying capitiacy of 1 1/2 tons plus empty wt. So if weights 9000 thousand empty plus 3000 for load. This is what I did on F800 I have, empty wt plus 2 1/2 tons..

Chart is correct, my F-800 is only rated for 32k, never seen a 20k float front axle on a F-700 to make it 40k rated
under 26k truck = no cdl
under 26K truck pulling 10K trailer = no cdl
under 26k truck pulling over 10k trailer = not sure
over 26K truck = class B cdl
over 26k truck pulling 10k trailer = still class B cdl
over 26k truck pulling over 10k trailer = class A cdl.
