Transmission issues

I have a 1982 f100 I can start driving and the transmission shifts flawlessly from first to second but when i try to speed up the transmission disengages the motor and allows it to get high rpms. I’m not sure what transmission it is. It’s automatic and i was told it’s c6 with 302 motor . What is the first things that come to mind for me to check. Thanks for any help

I would check the fluid both condition & level.
The fluid should be a nice clear red color and not smell burnt.
Level needs to be checked motor & trany hot and idling.
You did not say how many miles are on this thing? It may just need a rebuild?

Thanks

I know this transmission is not original to the truck I didn’t know what transmission I had until I counted the pan bolts there are 14 and I was told it’s early automatic overdrive . The color of fluid is neutral and has no smell. I’m going to clarify color is clean and not darkened . It has a electrical connection on drive side and is in my opinion simply the nuetural safety switch . I have never seen clear transmission fluid

I have never seen clear trans fluid either. I think I would get it out of there and put new red fluid in it.

It kind of makes sense because I’m wondering if the fluid in it would maybe not be to the standard fluid and be strong enough for higher speed I use strong enough as equivalent to the weight of motor oil some are thinner and not meant for the same as the thicker applications are meant such as the oil in a four cylinder motor is thin and the fluid in a 1980 302 is thicker and hold to the abuse
