Hello. Im still learning my way around my 97 f550. I bought it a few months back and i dies not have door keys, i think maybe the original keys got lost and someone replaced ignition. It has power door locks. Is there a way to tell if i can program a remote for this, instead of having keys made. What do i look for?
Up on top you can do a search about this, lots of information. Just make sure you click on advance search then put in the keywords, such as Keyless Entry. Then scroll down a bit and select your vehicle as this will limit the search to your specific rig. I did a search for just "FOB" and here are the results to determine if you have the module installed that will support keyless entry.
Yes I know, it has been a month, but that's the way I roll.
From my experience the factory OBS RKE (remote keyless entry) module is under the dash behind the pocket under the steering wheel.
This is what the module looks like removed from the truck. This is what it looks like from under the dash. You short out the 2 pins in the gray connector with a screwdriver or paperclip to put the truck into fob learning mode.
This lists all the old fobs. Type 2 and 3 work with our trucks. Our remotes have the words printed on them, LOCK, UNLOCK, PANIC, TRUNK.

Our remotes have the words printed on them instead of symbols. LOCK UNLOCK PANIC TRUNK. You can use a car remote with the trunk buttons on trucks. But pushing the trunk button does nothing.

The turning the key to on 5 or 6 times is for the newer trucks and cars and does not work with this generation of module.

Those look nice. I bought mine off Ebay. Just search for the FCC ID and there is several that pull up. Looks like new replacements with internal electronics for $11.95 each with new batteries.
As always, check out the feedback from any Ebay seller before buying.
