I just bought a '95 Bronco XLT (beautiful 4x4, though it's not rained yet, so I haven't had the opportunity to play with that option yet).
Anyway, the tailgate window is stuck, in the down position, so I can't get to the motor to check the connections because the glass is in the way. My dad and brothers and I have been trying to figure it out for a good day and a half now...Dad seems to think the connections in the motor need to be checked/cleaned so they make good connections. Me, I just want to get the window up without totally trashing the tailgate / glass / motor / etc. - then maybe I can get to the motor to check it out.
Anyway, who else has had this particular problem, and what did you have to do in order to fix it?
Sorry, I don't think that this will help-but I have had the same problem and strangely enough it fixed itself. I also have a 95 Bronco XLT and had the same problem with the driver's side window. That too fixed itself. Seems like when it's wet outside it gets worse. Never happens if it's really dry. BTW, we had a pretty icey winter here in NC last year with lots of ice and the 4 wheel drive works like a dream. I grew up in Boston and wished I had something that could handle the weather! I'm sure I'd have no problem if I took Miss Lola Jade there!
I have an 86 Bronco and had the same problem.....With all windows actually. The door windows ended up being a completely different problem.....anyway....On mine, I guess the key lock on the tailgate had been lose. I stuck the key in there and "Jiggled" it. It then started working! I also had it stuck one time and the tailgate just wasn't closing all the way. In this case it seemed like the motor wasn't working when, actually, it was just not engaged because the gate wasn't triggering the mechanism that stops you from opening it when it is down. I hope this helps. Good luck.

*grins* I already went with the "Maybe if I just stand here and turn the key a few times, it'll fix itself" theory - several times over the last couple of days, as a matter of fact.
Oh, well. It could be worse; I could still be driving that P.O.S. Isuzu Rodeo I had until a couple of weeks ago!
Sorry to hear that. My problem actually took quite a while for it to fix itself. I wish I could be of more help. BTW, if you know how to fix my poor radio please let me know!!!
I know your pain! I had this same problem with my 88, on the morning that I was leaving for a roadtrip, and I didnt like the idea of driving with the window down the whole way.
Now, assuming the tailgate on your's is like the 88, here is what you need to do:
On the inside of the tailgate, remove the rectangular panel (i know its a lot of screws and a real pain). That will give you access to the inside. On the drivers side there is a wire behind the glass (or they may be in front of the glass if you're lucky). These wires are the hookup for the tailgate sensor. This sensor serves the purpose of not letting you put the glass up while the tailgate is down (for obvious reasons). This sensor is more than likely broken.
Somewhere along that wire is an electrical connector, take it apart. Then, use a paper clip or something to cross the two terminals in the wire and close the circuit, now you will be able to put the window back up.
I know it's a pain to do this, because you have to get your hands around the glass to get to this wire, but it is possible (says the skinny man..)
If you are successful, I would just splice those wires together so you dont have this problem again. It's not worth the time to try and get in there and replace the sensor mechanism. Just make sure you fight those urges to try and put the window up while the tailgate is down.
Let me know if this helps or if you need more info,
Robert

Sorry, MissLola - audio systems aren't my specialty. All I can say is to check the fuses...that seems to be my problem nine times out of ten...and the problem time number ten is usually just that I don't know what I'm doing! *grins*
As for the window....There is a safety switch inside the tailgate that is activated by the drivers side latch. Broncos are notorius for that switch being touchy. A couple of things you can try is....(I did this and to this day it still works.) Slam the tailgate closed a couple of times. Just dont over do it. You dont want to wind up shattering the glass...or push in real hard on the drivers side while trying it with the key. If the tailgate is not closed properly, the switch wont allow power to the window. If those dont work, then do a search in this forum for "Tailgate". there are some postings with a link to instructions on how to get past the window being stuck in the down position. Good Luck!
Roger on the window safety switch, and making sure the tailgate is closed tight.
Once, I couldn't get the rear window to go down. Just by chance, I noticed that the left upper edge of the tailgate wasn't flush with the left rear of the body. Tried pushing on it, no go. If I could open it up and slam it, I'm sure it would have closed. But can't do that. Had to climb back there and take the plastic panel off (I keep it off now), then the steel panel, and then the water seal sheet, and fish around in there for the motor connector about in the middle tucked behind a support. With the motor connector disconnected, I directly powered the motor with a small battery charger to get the window down. That released the mechanical interlock, so I could open the tailgate. To close it "securely"
Then when I reconnected the motor back to the harness, everything was fine. I'm careful now after closing the tailgate, to be sure it is closed flush! No problems since then...... eww, I hope I'm not gonna regret saying that!
Be sure and check the covered wiring that goes between your left rear quarter panel and the tailgate itself. As one opens and closes the tailgate it wears away the rubber cover and pinches the wiring. My '94 wouldn't open with a key until I repaired this type of problem. Also check under the carpet (or otherwise) floor cover under the drivers side door.
