Is this fuel selector unit serviceable?
1995 F250 XL 4WD Auto 7.3 115k miles
About a month ago my fuel filter light began to glow so I ordered a filter. Before I could get it changed out, the motor began to act as if it were being starved. Flipped the switch to the rear tank and everything went back to normal. No light, good acceleration.
I then assumed that the in-line filters in the sending unit must've been dirty. Ordered parts and dropped the (front) tank. To my surprise, there was just a basic sending unit without the plastic housing that typically holds the two small filters. I cleaned out the tank which had some rust sediment in it but no signs of algae. I replaced the pick-up screen which was broken and put the tank back into the truck. I changed out the fuel bowl filter and got the bowl cleaned up as well. It was embarrassingly dirty. (I'll share some pics upon request but really, it was bad.) Got the truck fired up and flipped the selector switch back to the front tank. Maybe 2 minutes of idling later, the fuel filter light came back on. Truck runs just fine off the rear tank. I'm thinking the selector valve might be restricted, thereby causing the light to come on. Hence, my question, can this be serviced? Didn't want to go and break the damn thing without asking first.
Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise.
What I opted for was an affordable replacement. This pup was plug and play. You'll want to have some of the 3/8" plastic retainer clips on hand if you do the job. The old ones were brittle and broke.
Still have the fuel filter light coming on when I hit the front tank. Guess I'll be blowing out the fuel lines next.
Anyways, here's the link for the replacement fuel selector.
Back-blew the front tank to the selector line out with some compressed air today. Seems to have done the trick. No more fuel filter light after 50 mile run..

Gonna have to put some more miles on it to see if it's really taken care of.
