2018 key fob programming issues.

I followed the manual and online instructions and I can not get my truck to enter programming mode to program a new fob I purchased. The door locks never actuate to indicate programming mode. I haven't cut the key yet, just making sure the fob works before I pay to cut the blank. Anyone know what I am doing wrong or a tip on how to get it to go into programming mode? open door, press unlock, off-run cycle 8 times in 10 seconds, on 8th cycle leave on, nothing.......

You have both original fobs plus the new one that you want to program in the truck Correct?

for clarity, do you have push button start or key turn start?

If you have Push Button start read my posting here. It took several times to figure out the timing and sequence but this worked perfectly for me.

I lost one of my 2 fobs on my '15 F250 and kept finding that to replace it and get it programed correctly you need to have a dealer do it. I tried to find out how to do it myself but kept being told that only a dealer can program it. 15 minute process for around $250.00.
I'll be interested to see if you can find out if you can get it done another way, cheaper, then I'll just be upset.

Ypu need 2 programmed FOBs to self program a new FOB. That’s the reason I always buy a 3rd FOB and program it myself as soon after I buy a car or truck. That way if you loose a key/fob you will have 2 programmed fobs to self program a replacement.

If you only only have one programmed FOB you must go to the dealership or locksmith that has the computer to delete and program key/fobs.

I do the same. Much easier to add a third right out of the gate.

I do not have push button start on this one. I have the two original switchblade keys. I added remote start and ordered a new fob with the start button in the middle. I wanted to just program the fob before I cut the key but can not get into program mode no matter what sequence I try. The ID numbers on the new fob match the old.

The frequency matches? I know there was a change on the programming.

I'm not sure you can use a three button FOB? All the info I have read, seen, is using the Lock/Unlock sequences. (I may be way off on this though)

Now that you mention it I do remember seeing that a 3rd can be added if you have both originals. I didn't so
I am definately going to look into getting another one. Did you order it from Ford or aftermarket?

You cannot program a 'remote start' fob to a factory non-remote start truck. The two fobs run at different frequencies. Ask me how I know.....I learned the hard way. You have to use the Lock-Unlock-Lock method to remote start from the original type fobs you received upon delivery.

There are places that sell original OEM remotes for significantly less money than you would pay at a Ford Dealer. I’ve used http://carandtruckremotes.com/. Good company and sells original remotes.

You will need to get to get the key cut at a local dealership. My local dealer has cut my keys for free on 2 occasions.

Quick question on this:
1: Did you also have the key cut?
2: Any suggestions on the best place to get a 3rd FOB?
Whats the going price so I can compare with my dealer.

Thanks

I’ve used https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/ they sell original Ford factory OEM remotes.

I paid $69 for the brand new switchblade keys remote with remote start for my 2017 F350 Lariat Value
I paid $79 for the brand new remote for the push button start on my 2019 Lariat Ultimate.

I had local AutoNation dealer in Bradenton Florida cut the switchblade key. They did it for No Charge
i had local Dealer in Okeechobee Florida cut the one fir my 2019. They also did it for free as a curtesy
