Well, the media has been soaking in and filtering cold and hot oil for a few months or several thousand miles so that’s how it’s suppose to look and feel. Unless the filter uses a mesh screen or a media that some filters have and are designed specifically for synthetic oil, I’d say almost 100% of the media in all brands of filters will feel and look the same.

I guess you could site one manufacturing mishap to bolster your case. A quick internet search revealed to me that AC-Delco filters are made by Champion and Fram and it looks like the Fram products are going in Corvettes. It also seems like many of these owners aren't happy.

It seems as though Toyota filters are made from various sources starting in Thailand. I believe Toyota has better control over quality than the other car builders.

I'm not completely sure what to think about this discussion. Are ALL MC / Purolator filters bad? Not sure, I've never had a cause to cut one open.

I do all the oil changes on my SIL's Chevy Aveo. His car uses a cartridge filter and is perhaps the best set up that I've ever seen. We've been using Fram filters, MC 5W-30 oil and a 5000 mile dump cycle. I see no issues with the filter and after 75,000 miles that little engine still purrs like a singer sewing machine. Otherwise, everything else that we've used over the last 10 years has been MC with no issues.

When I do my next oil change on my 2011 truck in about 1200 miles, I'll cut the purolator filter that's on it and decide for myself.

LOL..........Dude, give it a rest and worry about what you do to your own vehicle instead of being the town crier for anything and everything negative that you can find online about Motorcraft maintenance parts. It`s obvious you`re not going to use them so stop trying to convince others to follow your lead. Everyone on here is an adult and he or she can make their own decision about which brand of filter they want to use....period.

its not hard to try and spread the word when these failures are coming up non stop. Purolator has some serious quality control issues. Enough for me to stop using them.

Exactly, why people think they need to save the world, one filter at a time gets a little old.

You use what you want to use and I'll keep using MC filters. I'm sure I'll get 400K out of this engine just the same as we have the last 30+ before moving them on.

I'd also be more likely to believe an unsealed box sitting on a Wally World shelf was tampered with before I'd believe it left the factory that way. More than a few bozo's out there that would think it's funny to peel that off for ****s and giggles. Even if it did leave the factory that way it wouldn't be the first time in the history of man that something mass produced had a flaw. How many (man made) issue has anyone had with their truck? Amazing you would buy one with so many flaws....

I’m sure you are smart enough to form your own opinion. I’ve posted several flawed motorcrafts that have been reported... and I don’t think that someone can pull and anti drain back valve out of a filter. Then put it back on the shelf... once again here are the reported issues that I’ve seen with a quick google search. Make your own assessment. I’m not a sheep so I’ll move on and use a filter that works. Not one that’s proven to fail often.
