cummins 6BT/12V questions
Decided to start a new thread for cummins, even though this is a ford forum site. ill just post any more questions i have into here.
My question would be about the fuel pump. I just read a post that stated that just like everything else, the fuel pump for a 6BT is strictly mechanical and is mounted to the side of the block. Can anyone confirm this? is it false? When i do the swap into my 79 F3fiddy, i would like to keep the original fuel pumps, as that would make a few things simpler.

Yes the 12v Cummins does have a mechanical lift pump on the side of the block.
there are 2 different types though. The earlier VE pump engines use a pump similar to a carbed gas engine, with an output of 8-10 psi. The P7100 equipped engines have a higher pressure plunger style pump.
Either type can be deleted in favor of an electric pump, but the VE pump cannot handle input pressure much more than 10-12, while the P7100 is capable of withstanding upwards of 100 psi.

6BT has a mechanical pump very similar to the IDIs but I've heard of 1st gen cummins owners adding a supplemental fuel pump like IDI owners like to do when the main one starts crapping out.
I wish you the best of luck with your swap, please document the swap and take lots of pictures!
