Yeah, the cracked tires have to go. Rust bubbles along the seam say they at minimum need to be blasted and inspected. Maybe even magnafluxed. The problem with just declaring them junk is that no better tube type wheels are easily found. Most found will be even older than these. No question that switching to tubeless 22.5s from a dry desert yard is the best plan, but expensive. Military surplus wheels are a good replacement option. There is a sliding scale of risk from these to the below pic of one of mine that went bang. The pictured wheel had internal rim rust that I couldn’t see, and separated when I aired it up. Stu
Good idea I know a guy who does sandblasting I bought this truck in the condition its in My main objective is to be driving and operating a truck that will do its job safely thanks for replies!
To the OP: In the second wheel picture you posted, the concave side of the rear duals, there is some writing stamped into the wheel to the right of the valve stem in the picture. Can you get a close up shot of that?
It would be great if they aren't WM wheels....
Truckdog, aren't there other wheels with a similar, and similarly dangerous, design as the Firestone RH5?
I disnt get a picture I forgot to say in my post they were just as truckdog said they had XL on the rear but I didnt see a stamp on the front ones I assume they are all the same.
Two of my WM's are with Shaun at American Wheel Solutions in Kenwick Washington 509-737-6082 RIGHT NOW to have the centers fitted(welded and powder coated etc) into 22.5 wheel blanks so when I return from vacation they should be already shipped to my tire guy Mike M at Parkhouse Tire here in San Diego so Mike can mount some 9r22.5 Firestone all position treads on them..Im hoping they will be waiting for me for my Jan 5th return from Mexico..Next vacation the remaining 4 wheels will get done...by that time the other tires will be worn enough to warrant replacement...The two wheels Mike dismounted were in excellent shape...no rust...very clean so I should have a good result...guess we will see....
