My cousin ownes a Duramax with the Banks 4" exaust, Preditor with 85 hp setting. I own a 02 Powerstroke with 4" exaust with the Preditor set on 85 hp. Last nite we got together and both got on it at the same time. He walked away from me by 2 lenghts. Has any body else raced one? I was surprised on the preformance of the Duramax. I dont really like to be beat by the Chevy trucks, guess ill have to pull the lightning out to restore the Ford name.
Your comparing two different generations of engines. Let him race a 6.0 powerstroke with the equivelent modes and I bet he would get his a** handed to him
As thinksnow said, you are comparing different generation engines. Although the torque isn't much different, the Duramax is rated for more HP than the 7.3. Also, GM's trucks are lighter than Ford's.
Were the trucks automatic or standard? Plus was it a RC, SC or CC? 4X4 or not? LB or SB? What kind of bumpers(some are very heavy), headache racks(heavy) or tool boxes?(really heavy filled) All those factors add quite a bit of weight and there are probably lots of other factors.
I only know one thing about GM products, the line for the GM Service Department is always longer than the line for the Ford Dealer, and that is just my observation from passing by both almost every day.
Both trucks had autos, his was crew cab mine is long bed supercab. Both 4x4. What made it even worse was he was in my truck with me and his girlfriend was driving his truck. I still would never own a Chevy I am Ford man all the way. The new style Chevy's look *hitty I think.
I raced my buddy who owns a 2002 Duramax 2500HD Chevy / automatic/ crew cab long bed, with a 4'' exhaust an a 100hp chip - - with my 2002 PSD Excursion/auto/ with only a air filter and a superchips tuner and I walked him.
This both happened on the street and the track.....
I raced a 2000 or 2001 Chevy 2500 HD, CC short box, with a Duramax and won. I was sitting at a traffic light waiting to go. He pulled up next to me and with something to prove, looked over. I looked over at him and he "jerked" his truck forward and looked over again. I jerked my X forward and it was on. From the looks of things, the race was to the on-ramp for the freeway. The light tunred green and we both floored it. I smoked him off the line and would have beat him to the on-ramp had it not been for a chevy astro van that got in my way. I wasn't going to let things go too far by running that duramax off the road and causing an accident. I passed the astrovan, got on to the freeway, passed him, and left him in the dust. There is some irony is this story though. He only had his wife in the truck and nobody else. I was loaded with 5 people including myself. In this case, The Ford Powerstroke triumphed gallantly over the Chevrolet Duramax. It was that very same day that I bought and intsalled my K&N filter too. It did what it was supposed to and gave my X a little more air. For the record, I never found a trace of dust in my intake or anywhere. BUT, keep this in mind: even though I installed the filter that day, it doesn't mean my X fully reconfigured itself for the new amount of air that was coming in. So technically, you could say I was still stock. The fact remains that a well experienced Powerstroke took a new/first generation Duramax that's supposed to be better and faster, for a run.
I was smoking duramax with my 99 350 410 and 50hp
no to sure of my 2002 250 373's seem to keep lagin behind but my neighbor has a duramax and i'm sure i'll try soon.
