Question Overheating with Preditor Programer

Hi Guys, I have this question????????. is anyone having a heat problem while running a Preditor in the tow mood 45 HP, and towing a mediue load 8K lbs ?????. losing coolant from under radiator cap, is it the preditor or is there a problem with the new 6.0 engine(04 model engine)??????????
Thanks Rob

I have heard problems with and without Predator. Some have done it stock, others won't do it stock, but will with Predator. Jury is out. Check your radiator cap and overfill tank cap. Coollant level in overflow should be below min.

IF you fill to the max level it may come out even with a stock engine...
with the predator it will make marginal systems leak,
but most have had no issues...
Mine leaked stock - went to ford and my cap was not holding the right pressure - new cap... and it still leaked...
let it leak down to the minimum and it has gone any further wven with the predator...
just watch it and if it continually drops there is an issue other than the too small overflow bottle :-)

Let's say this...
you'd have to pry my fingers off to get to take the predator away !!!
You'd have a BIG fight on your hands !
I couldn't STAND to drive it stock now !!!

It IS the best bang for the buck around !

Amen, JD! Talk about simple plug and play, you can't beat the Predator for the price. If the coolant overflow was the result of the Predator, why does it happen to stock 6.0's without the Predator? Or, why doesn't it happen to all 6.0's with the Predator? Jury is still out on this one.

Is it possible that at WOT, higher RPMs, that the heads are lifting off the engine like some LS1's? That would definatly increase the pressure in the coolant system. I don't have any other ideas...

u wont ever get away with that on a diesel maybe on the LS1, but our 6.0's have 20 times the cyl pressure, and if a head "lifted", it would blow clean off

i think its just the extra cyl head temp u get w more fuel

if its doin it, make sure u get the cap checked while its hot, and if its underpressured, get a good one and check it too.

if its boilin out, it is probably boilin in the heads, and boiled water(air) doesnt cool too well

Have you noticed any abnormal temperature readings on the gage?

Do you have an EGT gage?

I have noticed that the factory frequently overfills the coolant. Mine puked out a cup or two but then quit loosing coolant.

If it looses coolant below the add mark, you might remove the Predator and recheck. I'll bet it is not the Predator!

The dealer will pressure check the cap....
but do remove the predator b4 taking it in :-)

and the concensus is that you should fill the overflow bottle to NO MORE THAN the minimum...

Angry 6.0L loosing water

I have a 2004 350 . Had a western Diesel 70 Horse boost. Started loosing water, took it to Dealer, they pressure checked it and checked ok, still lost coolant. took it back they replaced cap, still lost coolant. to make a long story short, have unhooked the western diesel boost, went back to stock. Nothing has changed, put it on a hard pull and it will get rid if the coolant, like 2 gallon in 50 miles.

mtrnatn, Welcome to FTE. Keep us posted on what you find out about what is causing the coolant loss.

mtrnatn:
OK, ?, you too are losing coolant on long hard pulls, only if the Western Diesel program is enabled or disabled, or it does not matter.
I have already lost one engine because of it.
Thanks Rob

Didn,t make any difference. We unhooked the boost and run it and still lost coolant. Dealer hooked up guages and went out with us and on a 6%grade temp got to 230. Stock Boost was 24pounds. EGT up to around1200degrees om our pyro. The boost and the EGT are about the same with the WD programmer hooked up. We have 22,000 on this truck.
