New GM tailgate 'step'

Ran across a new GMC 2500 in a Lowes lot in Tucson today--asked the guy to show me how it works...about 2/3s of the upper half of the tailgate is the 'step' gadget. It folded downward to about halfway to the ground, then went another step lower in a 2nd movement. Now sure how it will work, but quite a show to see it work.
Where is Howie Long and the 'Old Man Step' Ad? Just took them 10 years to give in...

Saw a guy at work that had a new chevy. Tailgate looked like it had two pieces. Didnt ask about it but it sounds like what you saw.

Must have been a 19 1500. The 19 2500HDs are still the old body style.

Really baffles my mind how we can totally over complicate the simplest things. I've seen one in person, and it just seems like a hassle. I'm mad enough when the latches freeze on a regular tailgate, now there is a whole 'nother set of latches to give one trouble. 😀

Years ago, and before GM signed Howie to be their spokesman, he once used the term “ Safe as sitting in an F-350” on air when talking about a quarterback benefitting from great line protection. Then proclaiming many time “Ford” on the same clip.

Howie’s mind changed at the same time he started receiving checks from GM.

On one hand I think that step and the load stop would be nice. On the other hand seems complex and could be prone to issues in the future. I have the step on my 2019 F350 and I'm worried as time goes on I could have issues with all the moving parts in it.

Over time and repeated use it will definently...... loosen up. Fords step seems pretty reliable though for the most part. If you use it frequently you will notice that it will get “wobbly” .

If the step part is removable (or could be opened with the tailgate up) it would make a great 5th wheel tailgate too. I'm liking what I see.

I find my tailgate step to be pretty much useless. I'm 58yo, 5'9" tall and can hardly hike my leg up enough to use the step. The easiest way for me to get in the bed is to hop my butt up onto the tailgate and then get up from there.
