One of the things you are forgetting is they DID break down and NEEDED to be fixed on the side of the road.
All the stuff people say about the new stuff is exactly what was said about the self starter (electric starter) electric head and tail lights, hydraulic brakes, automatic transmissions, alternators, seat belts, air bags, electronic ignition, fuel injection, power windows and locks, air conditioning, basicly everything we take for granted on today's vehicles.
Time marches on.
It wont be long till people EXPECT the car to tell them they need stay in their lanes or to apply brakes, NOW!
There's a reason why '70's trucks are still plentiful out on the roads 40+ years later (some of them still used for work daily). I wonder how many 2018 trucks will be on the road in 2058? My guess is near zero.
I hope your new truck treats you very well as it ages
Really baffles my mind how we can totally over complicate the simplest things. I've seen one in person, and it just seems like a hassle. I'm mad enough when the latches freeze on a regular tailgate, now there is a whole 'nother set of latches to give one trouble. 😀
Add to that if someone uses their truck as a truck.. loom, sand, mulch, stone dust etc.. once that gets into all the tracks, notches, latches etc.. hiw well will everything fold, lock slide??
Lest we forget infated insurance rates.... the cost on these new tailgates is absurd. We all eat that inflation in our monthly insurance premium. Throwing a number out there, but a 3k dollar tailgate will make a significant difference on your insurance.

If ones stolen I'd bet that by the time you do the paint to match and trim your closer to 5 grand. The Fords are if replaced by the dealer.
Me also. I love my tailgate. It gets loaded up with hay and mulch and all I need to do is blow it out and it’s bsck to new. Over and over and over again. It’s the simplicity that makes the Ford tailgate genius.
How much will that tailgate cost to replace when someone steals it? $2,000 or more?
You better believe that no dealer will be interested in repairing one of these.
Hmmmm, I’m thinking more like 3-5K for a replacement with paint to match.
I can see these being a must have for a thief.
