1948 Ford F1 Flathead 226 Rebuild Recomomendations ??

I am finally getting around to having my engine machined and rebuilt for my truck. I was wondering if any of you suggest a company that you have had great service and good prices from to buy the rebuild kits, pistons, rings, etc... I have looked at Egge, and Kantner so far. I finally got my list back from the engine rebuilder and pretty much everything out there is available. So far the only issue I am having is the Oil Pump rebuild kit, I haven't been able to locate that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

Do you have someone local doing your machine work and building for you? Did they have any recommendations? Usually they have suppliers of quality parts they normally work with and trust, since they will have to stand behind their work and workmanship.

I agree you should be able to find someone locally. I found someone in southern California in 1976 the first time I had my 226 rebuilt and in 1999 up here in north Idaho I found a older mechanic to rebuild it again with me assisting. Fun!
Good luck, they are great engines!

I wouldn't necessarily buy a "kit", I would select top-quality parts from known players. Pistons from Egge, rings from Hastings, bearings from Clevite or Federal, gaskets by FelPro or Best.

Have your machinist inspect the oil pump carefully. Unless it's had sand run thru it, it is likely in good enough shape. Sometimes the end cover just needs surfacing to remove grooves. If the shaft is wobbly in the body, it will need bushing, and a kit won't fix that anyway.

thanks. he has agreed to do the machining, and building but he just doesn't have the time to do the sourcing. He is great at what he does, and I sit in front of a computer all day. lol. Thanks for the leads on these and I will also check on the oil pump for inspection first.
