My wife's 2010 Explorer driver's door no longer has the "hold open" feature when fully opened. Which hinge is responsible for this action-top or bottom? Is this something that can be repaired on the present hinges. I see replacement are not cheap. Thanks.
I believe the door is held open by a door check in lieu of action by one of the hinges. Between the hinges there should be a black plastic "rod" which actually holds the door open and prevents the door from opening to far (Door check 4L2Z-7823552-AA). Unfortunately, the hinges are cheap by comparison.
A salvage yard might be the best bet. One of the parts experts can chime-in however, I believe these are the same on 3rd and 4th gen Explorers (2002-2005, 2006-2010)
You might want to check the used car lots in your area for 2006-2010 Explorers for sale. Swing by one that's for sale and check out the hinges to see which one has the spring and roller detent, then compare what those look like against the door on your wife's Explorer.
FYI: It is the lower hinge (6L2Z-7822811-B) that has the hold open feature. They quoted $250 for the hinge plus charges for painting the hinge and pulling the door to replace. Ordered an OEM hinge on Ebay for $165 and will do the job myself.
I have a problem with that part. Where can I find that can someone please help. 2012 Ford Explorer. This is the damage part on the passanger side This is the one on the drivers side that is not damage. When it got damage the door could not closed completely
