4WD stuck

I believe my expedition is stuck in 4L but the light doesn’t come on at all. The other night I was 20 miles away from home and couldn’t drive because the truck wouldn’t go over 20 mph and the rpms were at about 3. The only light that will come on is the A4WD light. Is there a way to get it into 2wd so I can at least drive it back and forth to work. I don’t use the four wheel drive often. Any help would be appreciated

To shift in and out of 4lo, you need to be stopped, foot on the brake, and in neutral. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to shift.

I’ve tried that.

Yea I know. But it’s still not doing anything. It won’t shift to 2wd. I’m not sure if it’s just stuck in 4L or if it’s in 4L at all.

Try shifting the selector into 4lo, drive maybe 10 feet, then shift it out of 4lo and drive backwards a bit.

I’ve only used 4lo a few times plowing in my F350; one time it took maybe three minutes for it to shift back out.

You may need to get under the truck, remove the shift motor and with a wrench turn the shaft back to the 2wd position. If it doesn't want to move you may need to jack up a couple of tires to unload the drivetrain.

Assuming you've checked for blown fuses and they're all good, I'd say replace the shift motor and it'll work again.
