posting here in case a former 6.4 owner has info that would help
so I am looking for a tuner for my 6.4
criteria is
1) be able to back up my existing stock tune. this is different than being able to load a stock tune. I have a feeling the stock tunes in tuners are original 2008 tunes and there have been some firmware upgrades which exist in my 2010 tune. so I want to be able to back up my existing tune.
2.) be able to turn off all DPF functions. I go off roading thru the forest of NYC and do not want to cause a forest fire due to the truck going into regen while I am off roading....so I want to be able to turn it off as needed.
3) I dont want a tuner that if the planets and stars are not in the correct alignment...your engine gets bricked and you need dealer involvement to unbrick.

thats it.
I see u got no replies so I'' take a shot at it. you sound like you want a tuner that will turn on and off the DPF function. If that the case you won't be able to do that. To tune the DPF off the truck you must remove the DPF and replace it with a piece of exhaust pipe. The tuner will then have several settings that you can use but the DPF will be gone. You said NYC and assuming you did not mean new york city, so if the state you are in requires some kind of emissions inspection annually you will have to remove the tuner and reinstall the DPF to pass that test. It's been a while since I had my 6.4L but most of the guys making tuners got wacked by the EPA and I think a couple quit making "race" tuners and H&S which is one that I had moved to Canada. They make aa pretty slick tuner and if they are still in business you can track them down on here. As to whether they have up to date 2010 tunes in the stock setting I don't know but if you will contact them I'm sure they will tell you. Once you have removed the DPF and driven the truck in even the stock setting on the tuner you will never want to go back to what you have now anyway. H&S tuners worked great and the stars thing is a non issue. However, any tune or tuner is taking the program the Ford engineers developed for that truck and changing it. Any tune or tuner will put more stress on the internal parts of the engine and may blow something up. I towed my trailer in a tune above stock and managed to blow a head gasket, cost my 5K$ and some change. So if you are worried about that I would not tune the truck. I'm also told that H&S was selling tuners that were not "RACE" (meaning you can't remove the DPF and that the buyer (you) would then find someone locally who could unlock the tuners thereby making them "race" tuners. I talk mostly about H&S because that's what I had. I also had an EDGE race tuner (my first) and it worked great. I don't know how you could get an old Edge Race tuner but if you can find one it worked great. Same if you could find an old H&S just make sure it's for the 6.4. There was another company that made and sold a lot of 6.4L tuners but I'm having a senor moment and can't remember the name. If you will go back in the 6.4L forum 5 or 6 years you can find a lot of info on the various tuners. I'm told that now the thing to do is go to a speed shop and they will actually modify the on board computer and load a tune for you. I will say that the 6.4L tuned and deleted is a beast. I likely would still have mine had a drunk not hit me and totaled it. Hope you find this helpful,
