Potential Valve train issues 2003 4.0

I have heard that the vintage of my 4.0 Ranger (and I assume Explorers with the 4.0) tend to have valve spring breakage where the valve can drop into the combustion chamber. When I searched this forum I did not find a thread addressing this. Is this a high frequency event for these engines? My 2003 has 110,000 miles. Is it common enough to do a wholesale spring replacement?

Know lots of 4.0 rangers with over 200.000 miles, never heard of one dropping a valve, lots have chain and guide problems.

I bought my 02 B4000 with a miss and rattle that turned out to be a broken exhaust valve spring for the middle cylinder on the passenger side. The spring broke in the middle and the ends worked in between each other like a screw. Used an inspection camera through the spark plug hole to check for damage and didn't find any. I was going to replace all the springs but ended up doing just the one. Due the cam towers, it is a pain to do with the engine in the truck. Wound up just deciding to chance it on the others. Been driving it now for nearly two years now. My suggestion is just keep it as is, use good synthetic oil and Motorcraft filter with scheduled changes and try not to rev the crap out of it. Mine has 219,000 on it and I'm not real gentle with it, but it runs and drives very well.

Thank you both for your responses. I also spoke to my local Ford dealer who replied that he had seen just a handfull over the years. The key is if you get an engine trouble light STOP IMMEDIATELY and get it towed. It will throw a missfire code. If you are fortunate like M-i, you will avoid swallowing a valve.
