OK, this might be too much, but here goes......
How hard would it be to swap a cab from a ....2010 F550....onto my 1986 F350 dually long wheelbase frame? My cab has rust problems, dents/bashes, loose doors, broken fenderwells, interior is shot, etc, etc - the list is LONG.
I spotted a cab from a 2010 era F550 that is in excellent shape, and can get it for next to nothing. I am not looking for a direct "bolt on" - I know that won't happen, but need to know how feasible it is. Probably gonna be an electrical nightmare, but can it be done? The 86 has a 460 4 speed, I THINK the donor truck had a diesel, automatic. I'm gonna post this on the Bullnose Forum, also....
Anything can be done with a welder and plasma cutter, although I don't think this cab swap would be worth it. Too much modification, cutting, grinding, welding, frame modding, etc. to make it worth while. The electronics from the 550 cab will more than likely never work with the 460 engine. It is too dated to sync up. You can definitely sit a cab from a '10 F550 on the frame of a 86 F350, but actaully attaching it and making it into a running driving vehicle will be extremely difficult.
A Ford truck cab on a Ford truck chassis, how hard could it be?
Sounds totally doable, much easier than putting a Jaguar on a 4X4 chassis for instance.
