My rear brakes are due and I have been working on some 100K mi maintenance. I am going to do pads and rotors. I was thinking about wheel bearings as well. Anything else I should be doing back there? Rear diff bearings? Pinion seal? No real issues, but truck is 12 yrs old and everything (except pads and rotors) is original. The big tires / lift kit have only been on for 2 yr / 15k mi. It is my only vehicle I just don't need to drive much (small town). Thanks for opinions and thoughts,
Well if you do the outboard bearings then check on how the backing plate is holding up.
But really if the backing plate is not rusting away I would let sleeping dogs lie.
Seals of course, plenty of housekeeping and I wouldn't try swapping any new parts from the redesigned newer variants of the 10.5" .................been there tried that.................stick with parts from your year............

I agree with Yahiko about backing plates. I just had the backing plates on my X done after 13 years and 150K. They were all but gone. Replaced the whole E brake assembly. Also advise you check the rear brake line, that runs from the front to the rear axle, for rust at the support blocks. I had two line failures at two blocks. Had it replaced with copper nickel line that won’t rust.
Thanks for all the advice. Rear bearing are not making noise so I will probably leave them alone for now. Backing plates are in pretty good shape. Overall not much rust on my truck - it has been in FL its whole life, just close to the ocean. The salt mist from the ocean 800 ft away is not like salt in winter up north. My emergency brake is rarely used bc it is so flat here, but I will check it out while it is out in the open.
I don't even want to repost my backing plate pics.....
Looked fine til the rotor was removed then it was like OMG
Wish I could say I've never seen that before but it's too common. The button head shoe retainers pull through the rusted hole in the backing plate and it's all over.
Dorman backing plates are available, seem good quality, and somewhat affordable.

Looks just like mine in the old truck did. The nail pulled through and that was the end of that.
Nothing like little piles of rust and chunks on metal on the floor during a brake job.
