curremt gearing is way too low. Redlines at about 50mph. Guessing I want around 350? Any clues? Don’t know what is in the front diff.

What are you working on, a 1973 F100 4WD Flareside?
1963/79 all: AXLE code stamped on the 2nd line - far right of the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face below the latch.
your hitting redline at 50 mph with tall tires doesn't compute.
an example of 33" tires with 5.13 gears would yield about 3134 rpms at 60 mph, calculated.
taller tires and only 50 mph would drop rpms even more.
We must be missing something because your figures don't add up. If you're red lining (4000? 4500?) in 4th gear which is 1:1, and have 35" tires, you have 9:1 or lower gears in the axles. Of course you don't have those gears, so if you're really red lining at 50 mph, I'd say your clutch is slipping really bad.
With 35" tires, 3.50 gears would put you at 1680 rpm @ 50 mph. 4.10 gears would give you 1968 rpms.
Try putting the transfer case in high range and see what happens to the RPM.
BTW what is red line RPM?
Or it sounds like red line?
What happens is we get driving all them new cars & trucks that have over drive and run 70 MPH @ 1500 RPM.
We now jump it to non-over drive cars & trucks and do the same 70 MPH and the motor sounds like it is at red line but is only spinning 3000+ RPM
Remember back in the day they would run the old cars & trucks at that MPH & RPM and not think twice.
Heck I drive a18 wheeler that turns 1500 RPM @ 70 MPH and when I jump in my 02 Dodge with 360 v8 and OD it sounds like I need a double over drive it is spinning so fast.

If I am reading that second picture right, you have 4.10's currently? Judging by the condition of the gear in the picture, it is a good thing you are looking at changing them. Whether for 35" or 44" tires, I would say you wouldn't want to go any lower on the ratio. I have 3.50 gears with 30" tires. Even with the smaller tires that is a bit low for acceleration for my taste, but balances out nicely on the highway RPMs so I haven't messed with them yet. When I eventually get bigger tires, I will probably swap to 4.10s.
I too am confused by the info given. Is that third title referring to third gear (might make sense given the 50MPH) or is the post title referring to the third member?
