My son and I are about to finish up patching the floor pans in his truck. We are mulling over options for paint/flooring. We do know he wants to go with insulation/sound deadener underneath a vinyl/rubber replacement for the original rubber.
We are considering painting the patched sheet metal with either truck bed flooring or Flex Seal spray rubber. Then insulation and then vinyl/rubber replacement. (Over-kill?)
Or should we just prime and paint the metal and go with insulation and replacement flooring?
I suggest POR-15 along the welds, then 3M seam sealer on the welds and entire floor/cab panel seams. Then an epoxy paint or roll-on bedliner. Stay away from the Flex Seal stuff. Use professional-grade products.

If you have access to a MIG welder then replacing the pans is the way to go. I think I paid $45 per half a couple of years ago. I bought a MIG welder to learn how to use it but my Brother & Nephew confiscated it and made a father/son project out of it themselves and welded the new pans in my 79 F-350. They used some rust inhibitor type paint on it (not POR 15) but I don't know what type. There is no rubber or insulation on my floorboards so I cannot speak to that. The new floor looks great and you can't tell they are replacements. I say go with new floorboard halves and never look back.
We have already welded in a patch for the passenger side and are working on the drivers side. We will seam seal the welds and paint with rust preventative. Just thinking of adding a layer bed coating or Flex Seal before the insulation and replacement flooring.
