Gauges not working

I have power to my cluster gauges, but they do not work. I did have a problem with the tach that blew the ignition control box under the hood and am not sure if that did it. I did an ohm test on the coolant sensor and got 61 ohms. Not sure what it should be. Any suggestions?

If your instrument cluster has all gauges [not idiot] lights, all three gauges other than ammeter get their ~5 volt power through the ICVR [instrument cluster voltage regulator].

Also, if the ignition switch [key] is sticking [cold weather], then sometimes you can wiggle it and the gauges will suddenly work. Does the blower for the heater work? How about the turn signals?

The blower is working. I do have that wiggle thing occasionally. I notice it when the directional do not work or I want the blower on. The power is there as I tested it. I am just wondering if I may have blown the sending units for oil, tem and gas. Or if I may be missing something else.

Are all gauges at rest with the needles at lowest position?

I am getting ready to be away from the computer. I do not believe you will have damaged all 3 sending units. Take the lead off the easiest to get to [on my six cylinder, that would be the oil pressure] and with the key on, temporarily ground the removed wire. Have someone look at the gauge and it should quickly swing to the opposite side. If so, gauges and wiring are good.

The dash gauges are totally independent of the ignition & computer systems (if equipped).

Wiring diagrams & ICVR info here:

OK, so I got around to grounding the gauges this weekend and no movement. I have the volts there though.

So you had 5 volts on that wire you put to ground and the gauge did not move?
If so I don't know if that could happen?
If I under stand how this works you have 12v into the ICVR and 5v out> that goes to each gauge (fuel / oil / temp)> out to the wires to the senders.
So if the ICVR or the gauge was bad I don't think you would get 5 volts on the wire you put to ground. I could be wrong also.

It also seams strange that they would all stop at the same time and as said points to the ICVR

Measure for voltage where the wire connects to the Sender Units when you get the chance, but not attached to the Senders.
