OK, so silly me I decided to remove the instrument cluster and replace the lights with Led's because I wanted to be cool. Well I took out the cluster and set it in the drawer of my tool box at work and then decided to clean out the 18 years of dust, dirt and dog hair that was behind it. Well about 4 weeks later I decided I didn't want to do the LED swap yet and I went to install back in the truck... and of course they are all wrong, accept the speedo. The temp, oil pres, volt and the gas don't read. How do i set them back if possible. I replaced the lower intake and really would love to have the temp gauge so i can tell if I have any leaks in the coolant passages. Help me fix my mess up. And I should have stored them standing up but they didn't fin in my box that way and I never think before I act.
They warn that the gauges should never be stored face down, but I doubt that is your issue as the fluid in the gauges leaks out over time if stored face down and you would have noticed that. I'd check that none of the contacts were damaged when you removed the plugs at the back of cluster. The film contacts are pretty flimsy and could be ripped. With none of the gauges working it likely means a common power issue to the gauges. I'm not sure of what fuse powers the cluster but I'd check for that too as your power issue.
OK, the gauges work kinda, they flicker and will move a little but they don't read anything. the gas gauge reads 3/4 full when in fact it is empty. The volt gauge will flicker when key on engine off and then again key on engine on. the other side dosen't seem to move at all, well not that i noticed.
