Radiator AGAIN......

2012 6.7 with 245,000 miles. Radiator went at 42,000. Ford helped on half the cost of that one. Second Radiator went at 88,000. Dealer knocked off about $300. While having the coolant changed this morning the Service Tech came out to let me know that the radiator was leaking from the bottom right seam. So this is the third failure, all in the same exact location. I get that the truck has some miles on it but installing a 4th radiator.....come on. I am waiting a call back from a supervisor at Ford Customer Care. Question I have is has anyone else gotten assistance from Ford on a reoccurring issue like this? Dealer said they have replaced good number of radiators on the 6.7 but never more than one on the same truck. Truck is not abused or driven hard and is far from being in the extreme/excessive use maintenance category.

I don’t know of assistance, but I do know that replacements now omit a bolt during installation, so maybe check into that so hopefully this is the last one.

The dealer replaced mine last week at full cost to me, they didn't omit any bolts that I can see. 39,900 miles as it rolled into the shop.

I don't tow with my F250 SD, It's just happens to be my vehicle of Choice. Between my 2011, and now my 2016, I've never had a Radiator Problem. I heard some time ago that the Radiators are damaged by the Frame Flexing during heavy Towing.

never replaced the radiator in my 08 or my current 2013. I tow heavy too. Radiators are just cheap.

Ithoght the frame flex was more for to off pavement use. I’ll look for the picture identifying the omitted bolt.

I know FoMoCo has to purchase a large number of radiators for the trucks they build but with all the issues they have had and market share they lost to GM and Dodge, why do they take the chance? I think the diesel option in the Super Duty is over $10k, how much could a better radiator add to the sticker price and why isn't it covered under the powertrain warranty.

If Ford will not do anything for you, though it seems like you have really bad luck here with the rad, it might it be worth considering going with an aftermarket rad from Mishimoto or some other place? Hopefully someone at Ford might think this is too much of a coincidence in your case. Good luck!

The Mishimoto's have had some issues in the 6.7 trucks as well. The OEM primary is less than half that of a Mishi.

Apparently you get about 2 years from each radiator. I thought that Ford replacement parts had a 24 month warranty and a radiator that failed before that time was up should have been free. warranty

There’s one less bolt on the install. Upper left driver side for the secondary radiator where it gets bolted to the primary.

So with 245,000 miles. What other repairs have you had? How is the rest of the truck holding up.
With the first at 42k and then 88k It seems your 3rd one going 157k is a vast improvement over replacing them every 42,000 miles.

If that was all I had replaced in a quarter of a million miles, I'd consider myself lucky. But I suspect you have also replaced front hubs, maybe an alternator or starter, vacuum pump and certainly some electronics

Here what I have had to replace or repair in 245,000 miles other than fluids and 3 radiators.
- Brakes at 165,000 (Pads, Calipers abs Rotors)
- Shocks 150,000
- Left front wheel bearing 186,000
- Front end steering work 220,000
- Batteries 240,000 (they were the originals)
- No emissions issues as I deleted the truck at 138,000
By and large not too many issues.
The radiator is sticking in my crawl though. I am not for blasting anyone on the Internet but I will tell you that their customer service is as worthless as **** on a bull. I spoke to a supervisor this morning and he started the conversation by saying how excessive it was to be installing a forth radiator and how he understands my concern and why I am upset over it. Then he followed that up with, there is nothing we can do. He instructed me to go back to the dealer and have the Service Manager contact Ford. I called the Service Manager and after he got through with a good laugh said that is who I have to call to get any further so we are in the same boat. At this point I will just move on and hope I don’t have another one let go.

Dumb question, for those of us who have not had a failure yet, is that a bolt we should maybe remove? I have a 2015, 56K miles and tow a heavy toy hauler off road alot. Which us why I bought a truck like this in the first place.

I was going to remove mine when I discovered my 16 had it omitted when built. I’d remove it if I were you.
