Hi all, I’ve finally found a Manuel tranny to bolt behind a 1965 ford 289 v8 motor, it’s a 1989 world class T5 has anyone ever fitted one to a early 50’s f100? I’m just concerned the shifter will end up under my seat. Has anyone come across this? Don’t want to fit bucket seats like my bench seat. Has anyone got any pictures of a T5 fitted?
There are tons of versions of the T5. Heck, the darn thing was used by everybody; Ford, GM, Jeep, Volvo, etc. There are tons of different input shafts, tailshafts, etc. I do know that there are tail shaft housings that have the shifter up closer to the trans, and others that are farther back.
Here is a great link with tons of T5 info; https://lugnutz65chevystepside.weebl...info-page.html
The site is mainly about off topic trucks but there is tons of info that is very helpful to anyone looking to do the swap.
I am currently going Ford T5 behind a flathead on a 1950 F47 (F1). I am using a WC-T5 with a hogs head bell-housing and a MDL (modern drive line) adapter. This would put the shifter underneath seats so I am using an S-10 tail shaft housing and top cover to bring the shifter forward. It won't be as far forward as factory but it will be acceptable. my trans covers rusted out so I will be using an NOS cove and cutting the hole where I need it.
T-5 from S-10 is what works. You will have to modify to get shifter forward.
My T-5 is behind is behind a 239 Flathead with Wilcap (Pismo Beach CA) Transmission adapter.
I do not have a good shot through the door. Truck in shop and too hard to get to right now, but here are two pics I do have.
If you look close you can see round hole patch on rubber mat where old shifter used to be.
You can see Shifter is close to seat. You cannot use angled original shifter like it is.
Shifter needs to come straight up more or less like 48 Steel above.
Seems there was a guy in San Jose who did the shifter move mod - maybe my memory is not correct on this.
I would have liked to maintained original shifter location because I get a kid in the middle of the bench seat sometimes - then shifter is in the way (or is it the kid is in the way?)
T-5 is a nice Tranny - you will not regret putting it in!
