Has anybody added a T5 behind their 239 Flathead? How much farther back does it put the shifter? I heard its about 7 inches. Got Pictures? Will the seat be in the way? Will a Lokar T5 shifter fit? Did you have to make a shift lever? What shifter did you use? What adapter kit did you use to mate the trans to the engine? Was it just bolt on? I know its alot of questions but I'm gonna attempt it soon and any insite or advice will be appreciated.
i got the adapter from speedway motors.
i used a 10 1/2 in disc with a 14-spline x 1" dia input.
stock ford pressure plate and flywheel.
stock ford release bearing and fork.
i did have a problem with the 3 weights on the pressure plate touched the bottom edge of the speedway adapter, very little grinding on the counter weights and all was good.
i used the t-5 shifter with bucket seats,it was fine but i heated it up and straightened it up a little just to suit me better.
i have 6 or7 links to the swap but my computer will not let me open that file for some reason.
anyway it does move forwards and back with no noise,i still have no brakes so i cant take it for a drive yet.
i hope this helps some.

Thanks. It helps a bunch. If you can send the links would be awesome. In your opinion would the bench seat be ok to keep? Did the kit just bolt in? Did kit come with starter or did you use your stock starter?
this is the one i used as a guide, but i did source some of my own parts.
i liked this one because it gives you the part numbers and where he got the stuff.
i didnt like Wilcap, when i called he just said it would cost me more to ship it to Canada than the adapter will cost.so i went with speedway motors.
plus if you google"t-5 to a flathead" you will read for days,i did.
the first 2 that come up on google i found to be the best read
I have adapted the T5 to my 239 flathead, made all the parts myself. Should be some pictures in my gallery. The shifter is around 6-7 inches closer to the seat, I am using the stock bench seat and made a shifter lever out of a Chev truck shifter and welded on to the T5 shift lever, closer to the seat but with the right shape is looks good. I have the instructions for making the adapter in a PDF file if you are interested in trying it yourself, you will need some machining expertise to make the adapter plate. The big issue here is the crossmember, need to either build, buy a new one or modify the old one. I modified the old one and it is now stronger than ever. You will also have to shorten the drive shaft and take care on lining the engine and differential on the proper angle.
51Ford Fan has done this, Here is his album with the details, you could also try searching his user name and finding more discussions on the swap.
I know I asked enough of them
I have followed in suite and also purchased the Dwight Bond adapter plate. and have the t5 and everything ready waiting for my 51 to be put together still. so don't have any additional info to add at this point.
this route seemed like the most affordable, and easiest route to utilize your existing clutch setup etc. you just need the adapter plate from Dwight Bond and the half bell with the clutch shaft or (hogshead) as some refer to it. that come standard on mosts of the 4 speed crashboxes.

Good luck
I would love to have the PDF you can send it. I send a private message but your inbox is full. my email is rpnbp@yahoo.com
Can anyone tell me if there is another place to get a transition plate other than the Dwight Bond adapter plate. I cant get intouch with him. A PDF would also be good and I can have it machined myself.
Seems like I had issues making contact too, I think I have a different email for him, I'll check in the morning on my work email. Did you have a phone # or just that email?
