Scanguage ll not accurate?

Has anyone else noticed this? I have had my scanguage ll for a few years now. I always monitor ETC and EOT. The last few months I have started to notice my delta's climbing to a max 12 degree difference on my daily drive. I was always 4 - 6 degrees difference. I thought, oh well, time for an oil cooler soon, I guess it is my turn. Well, this morning on my way in to work, I thought I would hook up my brand new Snap-on scanner and record the first 4 minutes after start up to compare to another truck I am having problems with. After that, I drove to work monitoring my scanner. I was shocked to see after my 15 mile thruway drive my delta was 2 degrees. My ETC was 196 and my EOT was 198. I reached down and plugged in my scanguage and that read ETC 196 and EOT 206. WTF ! Again, I switched back to the Snap-on and it was showing ETC 196 and EOT 198. Needless to say I am thrilled about that but why the difference? Any idea's?

Great observation.

You're going to need a third to figure out whos right.

I was thinking the same thing. At the same time I have to wonder if it is indeed the scangauge ll being inaccurate, How many people have changed oil coolers that really were not needed?
I will definitely have to check again with a third source.

If you have my luck it will fall in the middle.

Any ability to recheck with a cell using Torque or Forscan? Past that it would be checking the sensors with a multimeter.

I don't have that ability but I am not against doing it. What blue tooth OBD2 reader would you suggest?

You could see what Forscan says if you have an ELM327 to plug into the OBDII port.

I'll add to this. When the boy had a SGII he was always pushing the 15* delta under load.
Went to the Edge and magically it rarely will go over 12* loaded. This was not due to a coolant flush or anything else(although it's time for a flush)

I just ordered the OBDLink MX Bluetooth for tomorrow delivery. I will compare the other two with forscan tomorrow and report back.

I don’t know which is correct either.

I will say that a 2 degree delta, fully warmed up and done at 65 mph run, seems unlikely. It just seems too low. I just had a cooler done and I am at 6-8 degrees different. I’d check cold soak temps and try a third mechanism as suggested.

Hmmm... I transplanted an engine into my 2006 cow feeding truck, it was supposed to be a drop in, I found numerous problems before I installed it, one was the IPR screen was bashed up, so I pulled the cooler to have a look at the panty liner screen. (It was junk) I hooked the cooler onto a tap, it flowed great, so I reused it, and I now have 15-20 degree spread on the SG in the Canadian cold just driving down the road. Maybe I don't know what the cooler is supposed to flow, it looked fine to me. The last one I replaced that had those deltas was plugged up good.

I'm going to watch this one too, I have been using Scangauge II since I've owned my 6.0. May be time to consider an upgrade.

Update: Ding, Ding, We have a winner ........ I haven't been able to update because of the snow around here and running with the plow on. I dropped the plow last night and checked my delta's using torque pro. My delta was now 7 degree's. Snap-on Solus Edge 2K computer showed 2 degree delta. Scan gauge was 12 degree's and Torque pro 7 degree's. Funny thing I find is the fan speed, Voltmeter, Water temp, etc all show the same between the three. Just my EOT changes between the three. Weird ....... Maybe I'll try a new EOT sensor just because.

It sounds like a software cal issue. I'm guessing the PCM sends out a signal and how the individual monitors have their calculation set up varies the display. My own resolve for the variation would be to see what Ford's IDS states and use that as the baseline, then know what each monitor reads from there.

One could say get up a gauge, but they you need a calibrated gauge.

Good idea. I do have access to IDS through a friend at Ford. I will compare that next
